My fear is faceless

My fear is faceless. It hides behind a perfect a façade, a mask of exhilaration and anticipation. But I am frozen. I all but accept my departure - I am leaving, bon voyage. At 9a.m. I pack my toothbrush, my scarf and dress, as I continue to mask my humanity. My nerves spill onto the dusty blue carpet, crawling closer to your navy shoes. It’ll be fine, you reassure me. But I already feel your absence welling in my throat, a big cotton ball, forcing me to suffocate. And I suffocate my fear.
